Eelco began his sports career playing football, volleyball and pin pong in elementary school, but later baseball, softball and basketball at St. Thomas College.
Eelco participated in the volleyball championship of St. Thomas College under the direction of Geoffrey Goede and football under the direction of Eugène Testing.
When Eelco was invited to play basketball, he fell in love with this sport.
Ronny Schoop founded Olympic and here Ronny together with Geoffrey Goede and Eugène Testing became like coaches and mentors for life for Eelco.
Olympic was founded in 1968/1969 and became champion the same year of their division and moved to first division. Members of this team became "friends forever", among others Papi Labast (q. e. p. d.), Diego (Ito) Markwell, Randy Wiel, Edward Catalina, Remy Sillé, Stanley Betrian, Ruben Minguel, Randy Hollander and several other friends. Olympic is one of the best teams in the history of basketball in Curaçao of all time, dominating basketball from 1973 to 1981. Eelco played basketball from 1972/1973 to 1998. He played in the national team of Curaçao and Antillas in Suriname, Guyana, Santro Domingo, Panama City and the Caribbean), Venezuela.
From 1990 – 2000 Eelco brought teams from different universities to Curaçao through Lee Frederick. In 1997 organizing first championship in honor of Niels Liberia. For 7 years Eelco has organized Randy Wiel Basketball Camp with different guests from America.
At the age of 25, CUBAFE entrusted Eelco with the task of coaching the Curaçao national team against the University of Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Eelco was a member of the board of directors of CUBAFE and also in the "Commissie Ondersteuning Basketball Ontwikkeling" in 2006.
Eelco led clinics in Pittsburgh.

Eelco nam deel aan het volleybalkampioenschap van St. Thomas College onder leiding van Geoffrey Goede en aan het voetbalkampioenschap onder leiding van Eugène Testing.
Toen Eelco werd uitgenodigd om basketbal te spelen, werd hij verliefd op deze sport.
Ronny Schoop richtte Olympic op en samen met Geoffrey Goede en Eugène Testing werden zij levenslange coaches en mentoren voor Eelco.
