Myrna Anselma begon in 1958 met schermen op verzoek van mevrouw H. Beaujon, destijds kampioen van Curaçao en de Nederlandse Antillen.
Myrna werd lid van de schermafdelingsclub van SITHOC. Haar eerste schermles kreeg Myrna van Maître Hoevers.
Myrna nam deel aan haar eerste wedstrijd in 1961, waar ze tweede werd. In 1962 behaalde Myrna haar eerste titel op Antilliaans niveau. Van 1962 tot 1971 was Myrna nummer 1 van Curaçao en de Nederlandse Antillen en nam ze deel aan verschillende toernooien en internationale kampioenschappen, waar Myrna altijd uitblonk.
