At the age of 15, Iyo became the senior doubles champion with his brother Ramon. At 16, Iyo won the top championship in Curaçao, the men’s singles.
Iyo held onto this title for three consecutive years. On an invitation from Venezuela, Iyo went to play a tournament there and won the Venezuelan championship. He decided to stay in Venezuela. Under the Venezuelan flag at the age of 17, Iyo participated in the Central American and Caribbean Games, winning a bronze medal. In 1953, Iyo won the top championship in Venezuela, a title he held for 13 years.
In 1961 and 1965, Iyo participated in the Bolivarian Games and became champion in both events.
