On the 5th of June 1953, Errol Rooi was born in Curaçao. He passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008, in the Netherlands. He was married to Mrs. Petronella A.M. Vermeulen, and they had a son. Errol had three children in total: Oriana, Thaisa de Ley, and David Vermeulen.
In 1965, Errol got the opportunity to represent his school, “St. Paulus College,” in volleyball, and that marked the beginning of his success in the sport. On several occasions, he became the school volleyball champion.
As a volleyball prospect, Errol received an opportunity in 1969 to join the Super Cleaning team led by Bruder Herbert.
In 1972, Errol became the champion of Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles with Super Cleaning.
In 1973, Errol received an invitation to play volleyball in Puerto Rico.
In 1974, Errol played in the Antillean selection at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
In 1978, Errol played for the Antillean section in the Pan American Games in Colombia.
In the same year, 1978, Errol went to the Netherlands and played in the top division for the “Brevok” team. Also, in 1978, Errol played volleyball for the Netherlands against the United States.
In 1980, Errol Rooi played for the Netherlands’ national team, finishing fourth in the European competition in Germany.
In 1981, with Errol Rooi leading the team, the Netherlands became champions in the European competition in Scandinavia, and Errol was selected as the “Most Valuable Player.”
In 1981, with Errol Rooi at the helm, the Netherlands defeated Germany after 25 years.
In 1983, Errol Rooi became the champion of the Netherlands with the “Starlift” team, winning the European Championship.
In 1983, Antigua requested Errol Rooi to play for the volleyball selection in Mexico to qualify for Cuba. However, Errol received a two-year suspension from the International Volleyball Federation.
In 1989, Errol Rooi returned to the “Brevok” team and started playing again in the Netherlands.
From 1990 to 1994, Errol returned for a season in Curaçao.
On Thursday, March 27, 2008, Errol Roberto Rooi passed away in the Netherlands.
His funeral took place in the Netherlands on Thursday, April 3, 2008.
